I've played at all the brass horns, a saxaphone and a flute.  Not really that great on any of the instruments.  However, I do recognize the difference in sounds.  The more inexpensive instruments don't stay in tone as well as the more expensive ones and also, the less expensive instruments are more easily damaged.
